o Maker of Gizmondo Handheld Game
Device Goes Into Liquidation
London - Gizmondo Europe, a unit of Florida-based Tiger
Telematics and maker of the Gizmondo handheld game device, has been
ordered into liquidation by the U.K. High Court, which recently
refused the company's application for bankruptcy protections.
Gizmondo Europe employees will be laid off, and sales of its assets
are expected to bring $72 million, according to an SEC filing. Since
launching in Europe six months ago, the company has reported sales
of only about 5,000 consoles, and has not provided sales figures for
the U.S. market, where the device went on sale in October at kiosks
in 10 shopping malls. Tiger Telematics CEO Michael Carrender told
The New York Times that the company is attempting to raise $30
million in emergency financing from a Swiss equity group to continue
its U.S. operations, but the company said in the SEC filing that it
is also exploring strategic alternatives that include a sale of the
company. "Gizmondo did not fill a need," Wedbush Morgan Securities
research analyst Michael Pachter told The Times.

o Internet
Telephony Firm Vonage Files to Raise $250 Million in IPO
Holmdel, N.J. - Vonage, one of the biggest providers of
Internet telephone (VoIP) services, has filed papers with the
Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering to
raise an estimated $250 million. New Jersey-based Vonage also
announced on Wednesday that it has hired Michael Snyder, the former
president of ADT Security Systems, as its CEO. Snyder is replacing
Vonage founder Jeffrey Citron, who will serve as chairman of the
board and chief strategist. Founded four years ago, Vonage currently
has about 1.4 million subscribers. The company had revenue of $18.7
million in
2003, $79.7 million in 2004, and $170 million for the nine months
ended last September. Vonage lost $189.6 million in the first nine
months of 2005.

o Sony
Pictures Announces Blu-ray Movie Pricing, DVD-UMD Bundles
Los Angeles - Sony Pictures on Wednesday announced that
new releases distributed on parent company Sony Electronics'
next-generation Blu-ray Disc DVD format will wholesale for $23.45
when they go on sale later this year, with catalog titles to
wholesale for $17.95, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The price
represents a 15-20% premium on current wholesale DVD prices. Sony
Pictures is the first Hollywood studio to announce pricing details
for either of the two rival next-generation formats, which include
Blu-ray and Toshiba's HD DVD. Sony also announced it will begin
selling bundles containing both a DVD copy of a movie and a version
on UMD -- the format compatible with its PSP handheld game device.
The DVD-UMD bundles will go on sale on March 28 for $28.95; Sony
usually asks up to $27 for new DVDs and $19.95 for UMD movies.

o MobiTV,
IPWireless Partner to Develop Mobile TV Multicasting
Emeryville, Calif. - MobiTV, a developer of technology
that delivers live television to mobile phones, announced on
Wednesday that it has partnered with IPWireless to jointly develop
mobile TV technology that combines MobiTV's "unicast" method with
the TDtv "multicasting" technology developed by IPWireless. The
multicast technology will alleviate strain on networks unicasting
mobile TV in areas where large numbers of phones are accessing the
same channel; multicasting allows an infinite number of phones to
watch the same channel or use the same network bandwidth. MobiTV and
IPWireless will test the delivery MobiTV over TDtv during the first
half of 2006, with commercial roll-out of TDtv networks expected by
mid-2007. Emeryville, Calif.-based MobiTV currently claims over
500,000 subscribers to its service, which is offered by mobile
networks including Sprint and Cingular.

Internet-based Gambling Firm GameLogic Raises $18.6 Million
Waltham, Mass. - GameLogic, a provider of Internet-based
gaming entertainment platforms designed to help casinos and
lotteries boost revenues, has raised $18.6 million in its second
round of venture capital, led by Bain Capital Ventures. Founded in
2002, GameLogic offers regulatory-compliant Internet gambling
platforms like PlayAway, where casino visitors can purchase wagering
"tickets" within the casino, play Internet-based gaming in
surrounding areas, and return to the casino to collect winnings. The
company's HomePlay functions in a similar way with state lotteries,
where wagers and collections take place through a licensed lottery
organization. Last November, the New Jersey Casino Control
Commission approved the company's platform after a formal review by
the State's Division of Gaming Enforcement. GameLogic said that it
expects to launch the product in New Jersey during the second
quarter of this year.

o Report:
Mobile Users in Germany, U.K. Warming Up to 3G
London - Although 3G users still account for a relatively
low percentage of mobile users overall, 3G users in the U.K. and
Germany are about five times more likely to use their handsets'
multimedia capabilities, according to a new report by mobile market
analysis firm M:Metrics. The company said mobile users in the U.K.
and Germany were warming to the notion of using their phones for
gaming, watching video and downloading new content for
personalization. With about 7.7% of its mobile users subscribing to
3G services, the U.K. topped both Germany and the U.S., where 3.2%
and 1.9% of mobile users subscribe to 3G services, respectively.
