o Nintendo to Bring Opera Web
Browser, Live HDTV Reception to DS
Tokyo - Nintendo announced on Wednesday that it plans to
add new features to its DS handheld video game device that include a
version of the Opera web browser, and the ability to watch
high-definition TV. The company plans to release a $32 DS card in
Japan in June that includes the Opera browser, which can connect to
the Internet through the free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service.
Another card equipped with a special antenna that enables TV
reception will go on sale by the end of the year in Japan;
broadcasters there are expected to begin offering programming
specially formatted for mobile devices beginning in April. Nintendo
also plans to release a slimmed-down version of the DS, the
"Nintendo DS Lite," in Japan on March 2. A Nintendo spokesman told
Reuters the company is considering bringing the DS browser to
overseas markets as well. Nintendo has so far sold 14.4 million DS
units worldwide.

o Former AOL
Executive Pittman to Sell "Daily Candy" Internet Company
Dulles, Va. - Robert Pittman, a former top executive at
America Online, stands to make tens of millions of dollars by
selling off the Daily Candy, a network of 11 electronic newsletters
focused on shopping and entertainment, The Wall Street Journal
reported on Wednesday. Pittman, who resigned from AOL in 2002
following the company's merger with Time Warner, has reportedly put
the Daily Candy on the auction block, and people familiar with the
matter believe it could fetch more than $100 million. He purchased a
majority stake in the company, which is aimed primarily at young
women, for $3.5 million in 2003. The Daily Candy has 11 editions,
including one in DC. It publishes daily recommendations on fashion,
shopping, entertainment, and food. Pittman, the former right-hand
man of AOL founder Steve Case, founded his investment firm, called
Pilot Group, in 2003.

RealNetworks Doubles Music Subscribers, Names New CFO
Seattle - RealNetworks, a provider of media delivery
technology and subscription services, announced on Wednesday that it
counted 1.4 million subscribers for its digital music services at
the end of 2005, double the 700,000 it claimed a year earlier. The
company's music revenue was $26.1 million in the fourth quarter, up
29% from a year ago, while games revenue was $15.7 million, an
increase of 52%. The company also said it has named Michael Eggers
as its new chief financial officer. Eggers, who joined RealNetworks
in 1997 from KPMG, replaces Roy Goodman, who will remain with the
company assisting with treasury, investor relations and other

New York - Major record label Warner Music Group credited
digital music sales for helping to nearly double its quarterly
profit to $69 million, up from $36 million a year earlier. The
company reported digital music revenue of $69 million for the first
quarter of 2006, up 30% from the fourth quarter of 2005. Warner said

o Sprint
First Carrier to Sell One Million Cell Phone Song Downloads
Reston, Va. - Wireless network operator Sprint announced
on Wednesday that it has become the first mobile music service in
the U.S. to sell one million over-the-air downloads of full-length
tracks to its subscribers. The service, which launched in October
2005, offers a catalog of 320,000 songs for $2.50 each -- which
includes one copy of the song for the phone and another for the PC.
"The popularity of the Sprint Music Store is due largely to its
ability to instantly deliver the songs people want when they want
them on their Sprint phone, the one device that is likely always
with them. This feature along with the easy-to-use storefront
appeals to a mass audience in addition to tech-savvy early
adopters," said Jeff Hallock, vice president of product marketing
for Sprint.

New York - Troubled video game publisher Atari announced
on Wednesday that it has delayed the filing of its third quarter
financial results, saying independent auditors had not yet completed
their required review of interim financial results. Last week, Atari

sales and restructuring charges caused it to post an unexpected loss

while shares of parent company Infogrames also fell nearly 30%;
today's announcement from Atari sent Infogrames shares down by

The Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has refused

further review this rating was rescinded by the OFLC, which says it
will not classify games that promote crimes. "The game detail states
that all these artists began their careers performing illegal
