o Apple Introduces Cheaper iPod Mini, iPod Photo Players

Cupertino, Calif. -- Apple on Wednesday introduced a new line of lower-priced, higher-capacity iPod mini digital music players and iPod photo players. The company lowered the price for its 4GB iPod mini from $249 to $199, and introduced a 6GB model priced at $249. Both models feature increased battery life of up to 18 hours, and support USB 2.0 connectivity for the first time, in addition to Apple's proprietary FireWire connection. Apple also introduced a new $349, 30GB iPod photo player, which sports a high-resolution color screen for viewing digital photos, and lowered the cost of its 60GB iPod photo from $599 to $449. Apple also launched a $29 camera adapter for the devices, which for the first time will allow the iPod photo to download photos directly from a camera, instead of first loading them onto a computer.

Eidos, best known for its "Tomb Raider" game franchise, announced in June 2004 that it would consider a takeover bid, saying that the market had changed and it did not believe it could adapt to the costs of developing for the next generation of video game consoles.
