o XM Satellite Radio Raises $201.4 Million

Washington, D.C. -- XM Satellite Radio, a developer of satellite-delivered
digital radio programming, announced on Thursday that it has raised $201.4
million in a public offering of 7,500,000 shares and $125 million in
convertible debt. The company will use the proceeds primarily for
marketing and systems, and expects them to fund its operations into 2002.
Washington-based XM Satellite Radio is launching satellites into space in
order to provide digital radio subscriptions to drivers, who will be able
to access the same commercial-free stations nationwide, as well as to
digital cable and satellite television subscribers. XM has partnered with
retailers including RadioShack, Best Buy and Sears to sell its consumer
satellite receivers, which are being manufactured by Sony, Alpine,
Pioneer, Clarion, Blaupunkt, Delphi-Delco, Visteon and Panasonic, and
Sanyo. The company has received investments from General Motors, Honda,
Clear Channel Communications and DIRECTV.

o Sirius Satellite Radio Raises $203 Million

New York -- Sirius Satellite Radio announced that it has raised $203
million through an offering of 11.5 million shares of its common stock at
a price of $21.00 per share. Lehman Brothers -- which purchased 1.5
million of the shares -- was the underwriter for the offering. The company
plans to use the proceeds to finance operating expenses. New York-based
Sirius currently has three satellites in orbit that will enable the
company to offer a choice of 100 commercial-free channels to drivers and
other subscribers for $9.95 a month. Competitor XM Satellite Radio raised
over $200 million on Thursday. Sirius has formed partnerships to install
its radios in vehicles made by Ford, Chrysler, BMW, Mercedes, Mazda,
Jaguar and Volvo as well as Freightliner and Sterling heavy trucks.

o Digital Broadcast Network Heavy.com Raises $3 Million

New York -- Digital broadcast network Heavy.com said on Thursday that it
has raised $3 million in its latest round of venture capital financing,
led by Baystar Capital. The company also announced that David Pachter,
former senior vice president, business development for Interactive Video
Technologies, has been named president and COO of the company. "With the
additional financing, a backlog of licensing deals and a growing demand
for our professional services business, we expect to be cash flow positive
in the fourth quarter of 2001," said Heavy.com co-CEO Simon Assad. New
York-based Heavy.com offers original animation, games, radio and other
entertainment on its site. The company said it plans to increase its slate
of off-line programming.

o Digital TV Firm Geocast Network Systems Ceases Operations

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Geocast Network Systems, a developer of content
delivery technology through traditional broadcast signals to digital
television, announced on Thursday that it has suspended business
operations and is currently in discussions to sell off its assets. "To
reach the final stage of execution we needed additional funding," said
Joseph Horowitz, chairman and CEO of Geocast Network Systems. "The current
market environment was simply not conducive to our efforts in this regard.
We sincerely thank our employees and partners for their commitment and
support over the last 24 months." The company's demise can also be
attributed to the broadcast industry's slow movement to adopt and
implement standards for digital television. Inside.com featured an article
on Thursday that recorded Sen. John McCain's criticism of the industry,
which will likely not meet the 2006 deadline for a conversion to digital
broadcasts placed by Congress when it granted licenses to the digital
spectrum in 1996.

o EA.com Acquires Games Site Pogo.com

Redwood City, Calif. -- EA.com, the online subsidiary of game developer
Electronic Arts, announced that it has acquired games site Pogo.com.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Pogo.com president
and CEO Erick Hachenburg will maintain leadership of the site. San
Francisco-based Pogo.com's games are less graphics-intensive than
traditional games from Electronic Arts -- the site offers free board,
word, puzzle, trivia, sports, classic arcade and casino games -- and
claims 17 million registered members. It has also attracted advertisers
such as Pepsi and Nissan. "We like the business model, the revenue stream
and their unique relationship with a key demographic -- women and
families," said John Riccitiello, general manager of EA.com and president
of Electronic Arts. "The high traffic and stickiness of pogo games will
complement EA.com's development of rich content offerings such as
Majestic, Harry Potter and 'The Sims Online.'" Redwood City-based EA.com
has an agreement to provide exclusive online games to AOL's Web
properties.

software and systems for the defense and entertainment industries, said on
Thursday that it has secured a line of credit of up to $2.5 million from
Capital Solutions Fund. The company plans to use the funds to help bring
its MercRacer 3000 entertainment product to market. San Diego-based
GreyStone develops 3-D graphics software that is used for real-time
simulations of combat for military purposes, and has also been adapted for

400 CD-Rs packaged in shrink-wrap for $89 -- less than a quarter per disc.
