o EU Supports Commission Antitrust Plan Against Microsoft

Brussels -- European Union members on Monday unanimously supported a ruling against Microsoft that would find that the company broke antitrust laws and would force the company to make changes in how it sells media software. "The member states have unanimously backed the Commission's draft decision," European Commission spokeswoman Amelia Torres told reporters. The EU advisory committee's opinions are not binding; the Commission will make a final decision by March 24. In addition to a potential fine in the billions of euros, the EU reportedly wants Microsoft to offer other computer companies a version of its operating system without its Media Player. Microsoft is still seeking a settlement.

o Web Sites Increasingly Tracking Users for Advertising Stats

New York, N.Y. -- Reuters.com is the latest in a string of major online news websites to engage the services of Washington D.C.-based Revenue Science Inc., a provider of online behaviour-tracking technology. Along with Reuters.com, Revenue Science announced on Friday that the Financial Times is also using the company's technology to aggregate user information to better define its readership for advertisers. Other customers include sports site ESPN.com and The Wall Street Journal Online. "It's much more powerful for the advertiser to say, 'Here's the audience I want', and for the publisher to come back and say, 'Here's the audience you can get'", Omar Tawakol, senior vice president of marketing for Revenue Science, told Dow Jones.

o Kodak Introduces Glasses-Less 3D Imaging Display for Games, Science

Rochester, N.Y. -- Imaging giant Kodak on Monday announced its Stereoscopic Imaging Display, a display device that creates glasses-less 3D images targeted primarily at the video game, science/medical industries. "Unlike other 3D imaging systems, which rely on a barrier screen placed over an existing monitor, the Kodak display is an entirely new concept," said Lawrence Henderson, vice president and director of new business ventures for Eastman Kodak Company. "Kodak's Stereoscopic Imaging Display system maintains full image resolution and creates a very wide field of view." The company is currently seeking partners and early-stage customers for the system, and will provide licenses to the technology for integration into third-party products and systems.
