o ABC to Trial Free Streaming of TV Shows on its Website

New York - Disney's ABC Television announced on Monday that it plans to offer programs including "Lost," "Alias," "Commander in Chief" and "Desperate Housewives" for free on its website, as part of a two-month test of an ad-supported streaming video service, Reuters reported. Initial advertisers will include AT&T, Ford, Procter & Gamble and Universal Pictures when the trial launches in May. The service will let users pause the TV show streams and move between chapters in an episode, but will not let Web viewers fast-forward through the embedded advertisements.

o TV Academy Names First Emmy Nominees in Broadband/Cell Phone Category

Los Angeles - The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences on Monday announced the nominees for Emmy Awards in a new category called "original entertainment programming created specifically for nontraditional viewing platforms," namely the Internet and cell phones. After reviewing 74 submissions, the Academy nominated Fox Mobile Entertainment's mobisode show "24: Conspiracy"; Ozone Inc.'s "It's JerryTime!" animated blog; AOL's coverage of the "Live 8" concerts; MTV Networks' "mtvU Stand In" broadband show; CB Films' "Sophie Chase"; and "Stranger Adventures," an online puzzle contest from Riddle Productions. The winner will be announced during the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony in New York on April 22.

o New MLB.com Feature Lets Fans Watch 6 Live Games Simultaneously

New York - Major League Baseball's MLB.com announced on Monday that it partnered with interactive TV firm Ensequence to enable subscribers to view up to six live baseball games simultaneously on their computers. Beginning next week, the MLB.tv Mosaic application will let fans change audio feeds and running statistics, and click any of the individual games to full screen. The application will also alert fantasy league players when live games involving their fantasy players and teams are available. When no live games are scheduled, the service will offer on-demand games, outtakes from the previous night's games and other content.

o User-Generated Video Monetization Firm Revver Raises $8.7 Million

Los Angeles - Revver, a provider of Internet video distribution, tracking and ad-insertion technologies, announced on Monday that it has raised $8.7 million in a second round of venture capital financing. Draper Fisher Jurvetson led the investment round; Bessemer Venture Partners, Draper Richards and William Randolph Hearst III also participated. Los Angeles-based Revver lets users embed ads in their online video clips, and receive compensation based on how many times their clips are viewed. The company will use the funds for international market expansion, to increase its staff, and to launch the official version of its service in May.

o Multiplayer Gaming Software Firm Terraplay Raises $3.2 Million

Stockholm, Sweden - Terraplay Systems, a developer of software that lets game publishers operate online multiplayer games, announced on Monday that it has raised $3.2 million in a recent round of venture capital financing. Investors included Cisco, IT-Provider, Nordic Venture Partners and VPSA. Sweden-based Terraplay provides community tools, in-game micro billing, asset download and multiplayer connectivity for publishers of online games. The additional financing will be used to speed up the rollout of Terraplay's global gaming network.

Atlanta - Comcast, the nation's largest cable TV provider, announced on Monday a partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment to create a new cable TV horror network. The network will offer Sony and MGM horror and thriller films and TV titles, initially on Comcast's video-on-demand service at launch. The companies said the name of the network and other details will be forthcoming, in advance of the network's launch on Oct. 31 (Halloween).

o U.K. Mobile Operator 3 to Offer First Mobile-Only Digital Single

U.K. mobile network operator 3 announced on Monday that it will launch the country's first single available only as a mobile phone song download, Reuters reported. The release of the band Planet Funk's "Stop Me" on May 8 for 3 subscribers follows recent news that another song -- "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley -- reached the top of the U.K. singles chart solely through digital downloads.

LodgeNet and In Demand, two providers of broadband and video-on-demand programming to hoteliers, jointly announced on Monday that they have signed an agreement to bring video-on-demand episodes of Howard Stern's radio show to the 3,300 U.S. hotels served by LodgeNet. In Demand, which holds the video-on-demand rights for Stern's show, will also make a variety of its on-demand content available on LodgeNet systems.

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a trade group of radio broadcasters promoting new HD Radio digital broadcasting technology from iBiquity Digital, on Monday announced joint HD Digital Radio marketing and education campaigns with electronics retailers Tweeter, Crutchfield and ABC Warehouse/Detroit. The agreements also bring HD Digital Radio receivers to over 100 store locations in more than 30 markets, coinciding with the launch of a $200 million on-air promotional ad campaign by members of the HD Digital Radio Alliance.
