Las Vegas - CustomFlix, a unit of online retailer
Amazon.com that operates a custom DVD creation service, announced on
Monday that it has signed agreements to distribute TV shows from NBC
Universal, A&E home Video and PBS on DVD through Amazon.com. Under
the deal, CustomFlix will sell thousands of TV programs previously
unavailable on DVD, such as PBS' "Frontline" and "Nova," A&E's
"Biography" and NBC content such as "Where in the World is Matt
Lauer?" segments from the "Today" show. The DVD on Demand service
will create each DVD as it is generated through a customer's order
on Amazon.com.

Patent on Streaming Media Technology
Seattle - RealNetworks announced on Monday that it has
been awarded a fundamental patent for its streaming media technology
and applications. The "Click-to-Stream" patent covers the core
methods used when users select links to stream audiovisual media
using a Web browser or other media player. The company said the
technology will be a cornerstone of its Helix Community technology
licensing program, whose licensees include Nokia, Motorola, Red Hat,
Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

Acquires Online Game Community Firm Xfire for $102 Million
New York - Media conglomerate Viacom announced on Monday
that it has acquired Xfire, a provider of online gaming
communication and community features, for $102 million in cash.
Founded in 2004, Menlo Park, Calif.-based Xfire now claims 4 million
users of its software, which adds instant messaging and social
networking functionality to hundreds of PC game titles. The company
will become part of Viacom's MTV Networks, whose other digital
assets include Neopets, GameTrailers and iFilm; Viacom also owns a
stake in Chicago-based developer Midway Games. Viacom said Xfire
will now be better able to maximize its advertising revenues through
stronger marketing efforts and integration with MTV's digital and
cable properties.

New Fixed-Price Online Store
San Jose, Calif. - eBay on Monday announced the launch of
eBay Express, a new area of its site that allows users to buy items
at fixed prices from qualified merchants. The site will remain in
its preview phase for several weeks, allowing the company to make
adjustments based on user feedback. The company said that the site
caters to online buyers who typically buy new items and want to make
their purchases quickly, without waiting for the end of an auction.
All sellers must have a positive feedback score of at least 98% and
accept the company's PayPal online payments. For the first time,
eBay also is offering an online shopping cart, allowing shoppers to
pay for items from multiple merchants at the same time.

Sponsors Free Mobisodes for Fox's "Prison Break" TV Series
Los Angeles - Fox Broadcasting announced on Monday that it
partnered with Toyota to produce a series of "mobisodes" for its
"Prison Break" primetime TV series. The brief original episodes for
mobile phones will be offered for free to Sprint customers, and will
feature 10-second commercials for Toyota's new Yaris vehicles at the
beginning of each mobisode. The "Prison Break: Proof of Innocence"
mobile content will feature new characters and some of the same sets
from the TV series. The mobile series is produced by Eric Young, who
also produced the "24: Conspiracy" mobisode series for Fox.

Networking Firm Mediabolic Acquires Streaming Developer Digital 5
San Mateo, Calif. - Mediabolic, a developer of
entertainment networking software, announced that it has acquired
the assets of Digital 5, a New Jersey-based developer of multimedia
streaming software. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
San Mateo, Calif.-based Mediabolic offers a standards-based media
player and media server software that let PCs and other home
entertainment devices connect via a network and share music, photos,
video and other media content. "This acquisition demonstrates our
ongoing commitment to expanding our offering of multimedia
technologies to next-generation connected entertainment devices,"
said Mediabolic president and CEO Daniel Putterman.

Radio Alliance Ups HD2 Multicast Station Offerings
Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a trade
group of broadcasters looking to accelerate the rollout of the
digital radio broadcasting format, said on Monday that new HD2
multicast programming is set to launch in 22 additional markets. HD2
multicasts -- essentially additional radio channels offered by a
radio station through digital technology -- will now be offered in
50 markets, making for a total of some 450 available multicast
channels.

system used to identify audiovisual works via a 24-bit hexadecimal
digit, announced on Monday that it has created a version of its
system for the video game industry. The video game ISAN
(International Standard Audiovisual Number) will allow developers
and publishers to register metadata like ESRB content ratings
through the number -- designed to be both readable by humans and
