o XM Satellite Radio Surpasses 4
Million Subscribers
Washington, D.C. -- XM Satellite Radio, a provider of
subscription satellite radio services, said on Monday that it
surpassed the four million subscriber mark last week. The company
said that it has gained about 1 million new subscribers over the
past five months, keeping it on track to reach its goal of 5.5
million subscribers by the end of the year. By contrast, XM's top
rival, Sirius Satellite Radio, said last month that it had 1.4
million subscribers and expects to have 2.7 million by year's end.

Buena Vista Games Announces E3 Lineup
Burbank, Calif. -- Disney's Buena Vista Games has announced the
games it will preview at this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo
in Los Angeles. Titles for consoles with playable demos will include
"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,"
"Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Kingdom Hearts II"
and "Disney's Chicken Little," based on the upcoming animated film.
Titles for handheld gaming systems on display will comprise a number
of titles based on both Disney film and TV properties, such as "Herbie:
Fully Loaded," "Kim Possible 3: Team Possible," "Lizzie McGuire 3:
Homecoming Havoc," "That's So Raven 2: Supernatural Style," "The
Proud Family," "Cinderella: Magical Dreams," "Lizzie McGuire &
That's So Raven" and "Kim Possible: Kimmunicator." "We will
strengthen our leadership position in the handheld games space for
kids and 'tweens with new titles based on upcoming feature films and

E3 Titles, Secures $50 Million Credit Line
New York -- Atari on Monday announced the lineup of video game
titles it will have on display at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Atari plans to preview "The Matrix: Path of Neo," "Test Drive
Unlimited," "Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure,"
"Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi," "Dungeons & Dragons Online:
Stormreach" and "Indigo Prophecy." The company will also demonstrate
its Atari Flashback 2.0 console, a plug-and-play device modeled
after its Atari 2600 that plugs directly into a TV and comes loaded
with 40 classic Atari game titles. Separately, Atari announced on
Friday that it secured a new $50 million line of credit with HSBC
Bandk USA, which will provide funding for its current and reasonably
foreseeable capital requirements.

Publish Game Based on Trump's NBC Series "The Apprentice"
Los Angeles -- Video game developer Legacy Interactive announced on
Monday that it has secured a license to publish games based on the
NBC reality TV series "The Apprentice." The game, which will feature
the voice and likeness of Trump as well as George Ross and Carolyn
Kepcher -- two of Trump's advisors who also appear on the show -- is
scheduled to be published by Vivendi Universal in the fall of 2006
for Xbox, PSP and the PC.

San Francisco -- INgrooves, a digital music record label and online
distributor of dance, electronic, hip-hop and R&B tracks, announced
that it recently closed a new round of venture capital financing,
led by Acuity Ventures and WR Hambrecht & Co. Financial details were
not disclosed. In addition to selling downloads through retailers
including Sony Connect, San Francisco-based INgrooves offers tracks
for licensing in video games, in addition to as ringtones and
full-length mobile downloads. "INgrooves represents the future of
the music industry and is the model for all digital record
companies," said Larry Hootnick of Acuity Ventures. "The music
industry is in turmoil and old business models need to be redefined

Blizzard Acquires Game Developer Swingin' Ape Studios
Irvine, Calif. -- Blizzard Entertainment, a video game publishing
unit of Vivendi Universal Games responsible for titles including "Warcraft"
and "Diablo," announced on Monday that it has acquired developer
Swingin' Ape Studios. Financial terms of the transaction were not
disclosed. Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based Swingin' Ape's team of 40
developers has created more than 50 titles, including Blizzard's "StarCraft:
Ghost." Steve Ranck, president and co-founder of Swingin' Ape
Studios, will assume the title of vice president of console
development for Blizzard's new console game development team.

Games Becoming More a "Family" Activity
Dulles, Va. -- Video games have evolved in popularity to rival that
of other family fun activities, according to a new survey by
Dulles-based America Online. The survey found that about four out of
five "gamers" ages 12-55 have played video games with their
families, and that nearly half of all U.S. consumers have played an
online, video or cell or PDA game. Though video games have
traditionally been looked upon as a teenage pastime, the results
showed strong penetration into adult demographics, with about 40% of
adults saying they've played such games and about one in 10
admitting they've become addicted. The study was based on a
nationwide telephone survey of more than 1,005 Americans between the
ages of 12-55.

Tenn.) Scripps Networks, a network of lifestyle television brands
that includes Home & Garden Television, Food Network, DIY Network
and Fine Living, announced on Monday that it plans to launch several
broadband channels over the next year. Tennessee-based Scripps said
it will first launch a channel focused on kitchen design, followed
by one that is project- or hobby-related, and a third that will
likely to be related to food. The company said it may launch as many
as 10 broadband channels on its HGTV.com, DIYnetwork.com and
FoodTV.com sites within the next two years.

(Dulles, Va.) America Online on Monday introduced a new tool that
will enable video game developers to integrate AOL's AIM instant
messaging application directly into their games. The software will
allow gamers to connect with one another for online gameplay, and
also allow developers to create automated IM "bots" to aid with
customer service. The AOL Messaging Software Developer Kit (SDK) has
already been used to embed AIM into "The Matrix Online," a massively
multiplayer PC game from Sega and Warner Bros. Interactive
Entertainment.

(New York) Nintendo this weekend launched its first retail
destination, with the opening of Nintendo World in New York City's
Rockefeller Plaza. Nintendo opened the store with a day-long black
party featuring pro skater Ryan Sheckler from "Tony Hawk's
Underground 2," in addition to a celebrity party on Saturday
evening. The 10,000 square foot store will offer playable game demo
stations, in addition to Pokemon merchandise not sold anywhere else.

(New York) Time Warner's CNN.com announced on Monday that it will
soon offer free video, and a premium video subscription service. The
free, ad-supported video will launch on June 20 and include regular
on-demand segments, such as an hourly two-minute newscast of recent
headlines, called "Now in the News." In the fall, the site will
launch a subscription-based video service that will deliver multiple
live video streams, in addition to access to CNN's video archives,
and more customization features for the site.

Yahoo Games offering, adding deeper Yahoo Messenger integration, new

to connect and play using either a cell phone or PC. The title is

(San Francisco) CNET News.com on Monday reported on the launch of
the first radio station to exclusively broadcast content that has
been submitted by listeners in the form of podcasts. San Francisco's
1550 KYCY-AM (KYOURadio), owned by radio giant Infinity
Broadcasting, features shows that will air on AM and can also be
automatically downloaded to portable MP3 players like Apple's iPod.
Infinity said that it has received more than 400 podcast submissions
from listeners in the U.S., London, Toronto and Hong Kong. The
submissions include "views on life in San Francisco, thoughts
pondered while commuting, highlights from the world of science, time
travel and amusement parks," in addition to a number of music
programs.
