o Emmis Launches iTunes Stores on
Hip-Hop Radio Station Websites
Los Angeles - Radio station owner Emmis Communications has
announced that two of its popular hip-hop stations, Power 106 (KPWR-FM)
in Los Angeles and HOT 97 (WQHT-FM) in New York City, have become
the first radio stations to fully integrate Apple's iTunes Store
into their websites. Listeners may now search, browse and buy music
they hear on the radio or online directly from ether site. "We will
have full control of the storefront itself," said Rey Mena, vice
president of Emmis Interactive. "Therefore, we can feature any
artist we want to feature. Since each storefront represents Power
106 and HOT 97's playlists, they will feature what is relevant to
their listeners. In addition, if you want to know what Big Boy,
Funkmaster Flex or other Power 106 and HOT 97 DJs are listening to,
you can find it on our websites and purchase it directly from the
iTunes Music Stores."

o Viewers Stream 3
Million Free ABC TV Episodes in Two Weeks
Boston - Online viewers have watched more than 3 million
free streaming episodes of ABC TV series, including "Desperate
Housewives" and "Lost," since the network launched them on its
website a little over two weeks ago, Reuters reported. Disney CEO
Bob Iger provided the figures during a speech on Thursday, adding
that the company may begin charging for some shows on its site --
supplementing the current ad-supported format. "We're going to
experiment with different business models," said Iger. Disney also
sells episodes of the shows on Apple's iTunes Store.

o Third
Soldier Gets Prison Sentence for Appearing on Gay Porn Site
Fort Bragg, N.C. - A third soldier pleaded guilty this
week to appearing on a military-themed gay porn website, and was
given three months in prison and will be discharged from the
service, the Associated Press reported. One of seven soldiers from
the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg involved in the matter,
Pfc. Wesley K. Mitten, 21, pleaded guilty this week to sodomy,
cocaine use and conduct detrimental to the Army. Mitten said he made
$6,000 in three months through the site, Dink Flamingo's
ActiveDuty.com, and helped recruit other soldiers to join him. Two
other soldiers have also pleaded guilty and received prison
sentences, while four others will likely be discharged but not face
time in prison.

o Survey: Nearly
Half of Web Surfers Are Gamers; In-Game Ads Don't Offend
Reston, Va. - Video game players represent nearly half of
the Internet universe, and are not opposed to the emerging trend of
in-game advertising, according to a survey conducted by market
research firm comScore Networks. Game-related sites were visited by
about 76.9 million consumers in April 2006, up from 71.6 million a
year earlier. About 25% are "heavy gamers," who play 16 hours or
more per week; 17% are 18 to 24-years-old, while 23% are 35-44 --
two key demographics. The also survey found gamers spend more than
twice as many hours online each month than average Web surfers, and
are equally likely to be male or female. With regard to in-game
advertising, 52% of heavy gamers and 56% of light/medium gamers said
the practice would have no impact on their likelihood of playing a
game; only 15% of heavy gamers said they would be "unlikely" to play
games with product placements. "Advertisers are quickly learning
that gamers are a highly desirable consumer target," said Erin
Hunter, senior vice president of comScore entertainment solutions.
"Gamers are networked and vocal about what they like and don't like,
and the results of comScore's study reveal that the vast majority of
gamers are not bothered by in-game advertising."

o Report:
Mobile Music Service Pricing Big Barrier to Consumer Adoption
Boston - Consumers believe mobile music services offered
by wireless network operators like Sprint and Verizon are overpriced
by up to 85%, according to a survey conducted by market research
firm Strategy Analytics. "Our research suggests that users are
willing to pay a premium of around 35 percent for the convenience of
downloading tracks to both their wireless devices and PCs -- subject
to reliable network performance," said Strategy Analytics' Kevin
Dolan. "In our view, the current 100 to 150 percent premiums charged
by the main operators make adoption of these services highly
unlikely." Between the Sprint Mobile Music Store and Verizon
Wireless' V CAST Music service, 21% of consumers favored Sprint's
offering, citing "perceived network performance" and "ease of use."
"Strategy Analytics has identified significant levels of consumer
interest in mobile music services, and the current services --
especially Sprint Music Store -- meet or exceed user expectations in
terms of performance and convenience," said analyst Paul Brown.
"However, price remains a considerable barrier to acceptance."

Gamers Favor MP3s Over CDs, DVDs Over Movie Theaters
Brisbane, Calif. - Gamers are beginning to favor smaller
forms of digital entertainment, such as MP3s over CDs and DVDs over
movies in theaters, and animated and comic-based TV shows and movies
over realistic ones, according to a survey taken by News Corporation
video game portal IGN Entertainment's GamerMetrics and Research
Solutions. The survey found its young male demographic participants
favor the MP3 format and iPods over other formats and devices; their
most-favored artists included Gorillaz, Eminem and U2. The
most-anticipated movie among the group was Fox's "X-Men: The Last
Stand," followed y Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's
Chest"; while their favorite TV shows were Fox's "Family Guy" and
"The Simpsons," followed by Comedy Central's "South Park." Among
gamers, the top consumer brands with the most positive impact were
