o Aimster Loses Aimster.com Address to AOL in Trademark Dispute

New York -- Aimster, a file-sharing service that piggybacks on America
Online's Instant Messenger program, has lost a trademark and domain name
dispute with AOL. The National Arbitration Forum (NAF) -- a network of
former judges and litigators that resolves disputes such as cybersquatting
-- ruled that New York-based Aimster must relinquish its Aimster.com and
other similar Web addresses to AOL. The NAF said that the Web addresses
were chosen by Aimster in bad faith "to financially benefit from [their]
close resemblance and ensuing user confusion" with AOL's Instant
Messenger, and that they violate AOL's trademarks. Aimster also registered
domain names related to the ICQ instant messaging program -- such as
icqster.com -- which it must now relinquish to AOL.

o Nintendo Undercuts Sony, Microsoft with $199 GameCube Price Tag

Tokyo -- Nintendo announced on Monday that its GameCube video game
console, which will compete with Microsoft's and Sony's $299-priced
consoles, will sell for $199 when it is released on November 5th.
Nintendo's console will not offer features like a hard drive that are
standard on Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's PlayStation 2, but the device will
connect to Game Boy Advance, Nintendo's new handheld game. The company
announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles last week
that the GameCube would be released three days before the Xbox,
Microsoft's first foray into the video game console market.

San Francisco -- Zinio Systems, a company that provides magazines with
technology to put their publications online, announced on Monday that it
has raised over $5 million in its second round of venture capital
financing. New Enterprise Associates led the round; Odyssey Capital, IDEO
Ventures and others also participated. San Francisco-based Zinio's
technology allows publishers to put their magazines online in their
print-layout form with exactly the same pictures, graphics, articles and
ads as the print version. It also inserts interactive elements into the
magazine content. The company raised $2 million in its first round, which
closed in February.

o NBC and Cue Cat-Maker Digital Convergence Partner on iTV Promotion

New York -- TV network NBC announced on Monday that it has partnered with
Dallas-based Digital Convergence on an interactive television initiative
that will send audio cues from a TV show broadcast to a user's PC and open
relevant Web pages. The ":CueTV" program features technology -- which
includes a cable and software -- that will be distributed free to users at
7,000 Radio Shack stores. Once connected, users will not have to be
connected to the Internet to receive the audio cues from TV shows. The
corresponding Web pages will feature a trivia contest offering over
$400,000 in prizes. Digital Convergence also developed the ":CueCat"
device, an infrared scanner that reads bar codes in print magazine
advertisements and opens corresponding Web pages from advertisers.
