o Listen.com Adds UMG Songs to Service; Becomes First to Offer All 5 Majors

San Francisco -- Listen.com, an online music company that distributes the
Rhapsody digital music subscription service, announced on Monday that it
has licensed songs from Universal Music Group for its service. With the
new agreement, Rhapsody becomes the first service to offer songs, albeit
in the form of limited catalogs, from all five major record labels. The
company now offers over 175,000 tracks for on-demand streaming from the
five major labels and independents including Zomba Recording Corp., TVT
Records, Bar/None Records and Sub Pop Records. The deal with Universal
does not include the ability to burn tracks onto CD or transfer them to
portable players; San Francisco-based Listen.com's Rhapsody does offer
burning functionality, but currently only for classical music tracks
licensed from Naxos.

(San Francisco) Wired News on Monday published a feature on the Blackpool
High Tide Organ, a musical instrument being developed in the U.K. that
will be played by harnessing the natural force of the ocean. "Its effect
will be not unlike the work of minimalist composers such as Philip Glass,
Steve Reich or John Adams, or in a way like the repeated patterns in
contemporary music," organ designer Liam Curtin told Wired News. "Tuned to
the harmonic series, it sounds along with the rhythm of the waves, and its
sound is more ambient than tuneful, although you do hear elements of tune
and resolving discords. In reality though, the sound will be unique."
