o Search Engine Provider Ask Jeeves in $100 Million Ad Deal with Google

Emeryville, Calif. -- Ask Jeeves Web Properties, a division of search
engine provider Ask Jeeves, announced that it has signed an agreement to
use Google's Sponsored Links Program, a paid listings advertising service.
Under the agreement, Ask Jeeves and Google will share the more than $100
million in estimated revenue to be generated from Google's advertisers on
Ask Jeeves' search sites over the three year term of the agreement.
Starting in September, Google's ads will replace those previously provided
by rival search engine provider Overture. "We expect our revenue from paid
listings on Ask Jeeves and Teoma.com to more than double from Q3 to Q4 and
beyond as a result of this agreement," said Ask Jeeves CEO Skip Battle.

o IFPI Cracks Down on Unlicensed Chinese Digital Music Services

Beijing -- Reuters reports that the International Federation of the
Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an international group of record labels, has
demanded that three Chinese websites stop operating digital music services
because of alleged copyright violations. Of the three sites -- Sohu.com,
Sina.com and Tom.com -- only Sohu.com has thus far acted to shut down its
service. The IFPI sent letters to the portals, telling them that they had
not first licensed the Chinese pop music they were offering as one-time
listens on their services. Sina.com told Reuters it will consider
shuttering its song dedication service, which allows users to dedicate a
song to someone that is then sent and played back over their cell phone.
"We have no idea how much profit they [Sina.com] make. But we calculate
that they have made nearly $4 million [in revenue], and they have not paid
a cent [in licensing fees]," an industry source told Reuters.

o Richards Resigns As CEO of Vivendi Univesal Net USA

Los Angeles -- Confirming earlier reports, Vivendi Universal Net USA chief
executive Robin Richards announced that he will resign from his position
to pursue other opportunities. Formerly the president of music site
MP3.com, Richards was brought on to head Vivendi's U.S. Internet unit
shortly after the company acquired MP3.com in August 2001 for $372
million. The company said that its Los Angeles, San Diego and New York
offices will remain open following Richards' departure, but did not detail
plans for a successor.

o Liquid Audio Staves Off Legal Battle with Shareholder Group

Redwood City, Calif. -- Digital music distribution technology provider
Liquid Audio said on Friday that a Delaware court has rejected shareholder
Musicmaker.com's request to schedule a different date for the company's
annual stockholders' meeting. The court also rejected Musicmaker.com's
request for Liquid Audio to pay its proxy solicitation costs. Redwood
City, Calif.-based Liquid Audio recently announced a merger agreement with
Alliance Entertainment, a distributor of DVDs and CDs, to which several
groups of its shareholders have objected. These groups say the company,
which holds around $70 from previous fundraising, would be worth more to
its shareholders if it were dissolved. Liquid Audio said it hired new
legal counsel to assist it with the merger.

decision on webcasting royalty rates. "We're definitely hoping that this
is just temporary, and that a reasonable solution can be found soon," read
a note on the site. KPIG.com said it will still provide webcasts of studio
appearances and station-sponsored concerts, which are not subject to the
fees set by the Copyright Office.

tracks from BMG artists to mobile and fixed telephony operators in Europe.
The deal includes the rights to provide users the ability to listen to and
"dedicate" songs, to recipients who will hear them played on their cell
phones or landline phones. As a first step of the agreement, Vitaminic
will start distributing tracks from BMG's roster in the Netherlands to
wireless network operator Dutchtone's 1.2 million users.

AOL Time Warner, whose COO Robert Pittman resigned yesterday and whose
shares have tumbled since the merger of America Online and Time Warner.
The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times both quoted analysts as saying

although some changes are in line that will likely weaken AOL's position
in the company.
