o Sirius, XM Halt Manufacture of Some Radios Over FCC Emissions Concerns

New York - Satellite radio firms Sirius and XM announced on Thursday that they have suspended manufacture and shipment of several of their radio models that do not comply with FCC emissions rules. After an FCC inquiry in April, Sirius conducted an internal investigation and found that several of its radios with FM transmitters were not compliant with FCC rules. The FM transmitters in question reportedly interfere with radio stations on the lower end of the FM band. o U.K. Authorizes Credit Card Firms to Cancel Accounts of Child Porn Purchasers

London - Under a new U.K. law enacted this week, British police will now work in tandem with banks and credit card companies to cancel accounts used to access Internet child pornography, Silicon.com reported. The British police are now authorized, under an amendment to the Data Protection Act of 1998, to turn over information on suspected or convicted of child pornography to the companies, which in turn may cancel any account used to access child pornography. "No card provider wants to be associated with those who commit these crimes," Sandra Quinn, director of corporate communications at U.K. payment services trade association Apacs, told Silicon.com. "With this change in the law, our members will have the information they need to remove offenders' cards." Data from the Internet Watch Foundation shows the number of U.K.-hosted sites featuring child abuse has fallen from 18% of total worldwide sites in 1997 to just 0.2% this year; the U.S. is home to half of all online child abuse content.
