o Steve Case Tells Charlie Rose
He's "Sorry" for AOL-Time Warner Merger
Dulles, Va. - Steve Case, the co-founder of AOL, told a
national interviewer that he was "sorry" for AOL's much-maligned
merger with Time Warner. Appearing on PBS's "Charlie Rose" on
Friday, Case said that the concept behind the 2001 mega-deal "made
tremendous sense," but has not turned out the way he envisioned.
"Ultimately it comes down to execution," he said. "One of the
lessons learned, I think, is that an idea is important, but
leadership and execution is really what matters… I'm disappointed
and frustrated that it hasn't developed in the way that we all hoped
at the time it could." In response to a question from Rose, Case
added, "Yes, I'm sorry I did it." Case, who now heads
Washington-based private investment firm Revolution, has in recent
months publicly advocated for the break-up of the two companies.

o Nintendo: 21 Million
DS Handheld Game Systems Sold
Redmond, Wash. - Nintendo of America announced on Monday
that it has now sold more than 21 million of its DS handheld game
systems worldwide in less than two years on the market -- or roughly

iPod, which shipped one million units in its first 19 months. "We're
thrilled to be announcing this milestone today," said George
Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing
and corporate communications, "especially since Nintendo DS was
North America's top-selling video game system of any type in June."
The company recently launched a new version of the handheld, the DS
Lite. Nintendo now offers more than 180 games designed specifically
for the DS, and nearly 900 Game Boy Advance game titles that can
also be played on the DS.

o California
Heat Wave Knocks MySpace Temporarily Offline
Los Angeles - The heat wave hitting the state of
California was responsible for shutting down the MySpace social
networking site for nearly 12 hours this weekend, CNET News.com
reported. The company's West Hollywood, Calif.-based headquarters
experienced a power outage in its data center on Sunday that
prevented access for about 12 hours by the site's over 90 million
users. The site came back online at around 6 a.m. Pacific time on
Monday morning. The Los Angeles Times reported that 175,000 area
homes and businesses were without power at times over the weekend.
The state of California declared a Stage 2 power emergency on
Monday, one level shy of the stage that results in rolling
blackouts.
