o Record Labels Drop Suit Against ISPs Over Chinese Site Listen4Ever

Washington -- Thirteen record labels that had asked a federal judge to
compel several U.S. Internet service providers to block access to a
China-based website offering thousands of songs for download over the
Internet have dropped their case, as the site -- Listen4Ever.com -- has
apparently since gone offline. When contacted by the Associated Press, a
reply e-mail from a representative for the site, identified as Mike Smith,
said only, "For some reason, the site is closed and will never come back."
Record labels including Sony Music, Universal Music Group and Warner Bros.
sued to have Internet access providers including AT&T Broadband, Sprint
and Cable & Wireless block their subscribers' access to Listen4Ever.com.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a trade group
representing major record labels, said it may revive the suit if the site
reappears. "This has been an effective partnership between IFPI and RIAA
that shows there is a seamless worldwide web of anti-piracy enforcement,"
said RIAA chairman and CEO Hilary Rosen.

o Video Compression Developer On2 Technologies Raises New Funding

New York -- On2 Technologies, a developer of video compression technology,
announced that it raised $600,000 in new funding from existing investors
and the company's board of directors. The company believes this funding
will cover its costs until it begins to collect on work and software
delivered in the third quarter. New York-based On2 also said its chairman,
CEO and CFO will work without salaries until the end of the year, and that
the company will relocate most of its facilities and operations to its
Albany Technical Center to sharply cut costs. On2 said it will not incur
any layoffs associated with the move. "I hope that investors appreciate
that management is making a sacrifice in the hundreds of thousands of
dollars because we believe in our products and employees," said On2 chief
financial officer Mark J. Meagher. "If this company was worth $25 million
in the spring, I believe it is worth much more now."

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Regal Entertainment Group, which owns 550 U.S. movie
theaters, announced on Thursday that its Regal CineMedia Corporation
subsidiary has signed a two-year agreement to use HP desktops and servers
for its digital distribution network. The companies said that over the
next year, the HP systems -- used to deliver on-screen and in-lobby

o Anti-Piracy Public Service Ads to Screen Before Movies

Aspen, Colo. -- A major movie theater chain has agreed to run public
service announcements before films that aim to deter copyright
infringement, the Associated Press reported. News Corp. president Peter
Chernin told an industry conference in Aspen, Colorado that an as yet
undisclosed theater chain will run the announcements, in addition to their
airing on television and being included on home video releases. Chernin
said the theme of the ads will be to show the effect that copyright
infringement has on non-celebrity film industry employees, like makeup
artists and gaffers.

o Salon Media Receives Extension From Nasdaq on Delisting

San Francisco -- With its market value down to $1.4 million, San
Francisco-based Salon Media Group, which publishes online magazine
Salon.com, has received an extension from an impending delisting of its
shares from the Nasdaq SmallCap Market. Although the company failed to
meet the Nasdaq's minimum price and market value requirement, the Nasdaq
said that the company's stock could continue to trade as long as it met
certain other conditions.

in the past year. Artists currently appearing on the "Amazon Recommends"
