shareholders. Redwood City, Calif.-based Liquid Audio is currently
negotiating a merger with Alliance Entertainment, a physical distributor
of CDs and DVDs.

(San Francisco) Online magazines Slate.com and and Salon.com both recently
published articles that explore the possible correlation between the
unauthorized trading of MP3s on file-sharing services like Kazaa, and the
current industry-wide slump in CD sales. The Slate.com piece points to
recent numbers from Forrester Research and Ipsos-Reid indicating there is
not much of a correlation, while the Salon.com piece features an interview
with University of Texas economist Stan Leibowitz, who has examined the
sales history of the music industry and believes that MP3s are indeed
harming record sales.
