o Slow U.S. Interactive TV Rollout Prompts Layoffs at RespondTV

San Francisco -- RespondTV, a provider of infrastructure and content
delivery services for interactive television, announced on Wednesday that
it will lay off an undisclosed number of employees and reduce overall
expenses in response to the delayed deployment of interactive TV services
in the U.S. market. The layoffs will include employees directly related to
set-top box deployment. San Francisco-based RespondTV said it will focus
additional resources on developing interactive services and expanding into
the more developed European and Asia Pacific markets.

o Merrill Lynch Predicts Further Internet Ad Growth Slowdown

New York -- Merrill Lynch has cut its forecast for growth in the online
advertising industry to between 10 and 15 percent for 2002, compared with
earlier predictions of 20 to 25 percent, according to a Reuters report.
Total spending in 2002 is now expected to be $7.8 billion, down from an
earlier projected figure of $8 billion. "We continue to believe that
market growth will re-accelerate in 2002 and beyond," said Merrill Lynch
analyst Henry Blodget. "Given the state of the economy, however, as well
as the lack of evidence of a pickup in advertising, we see a more muted
recovery."

Universal. Vivendi has plans to eventually distribute all of the media it
owns through wireless devices, and has already launched a joint venture
with Vodafone in Europe called Vizzavi that plans to offer digital music
to wireless devices. San Diego-based MP3.com's technology is also being
used as the backbone of Pressplay, a digital music subscription service
venture between Universal Music Group and Sony Music.
