o Excite@Home Files for Bankruptcy, Sells Access Services to AT&T

Redwood City, Calif. -- High-speed Internet access provider Excite@Home
announced late Friday that it has sold essentially all of its business to
AT&T for $307 million in cash, and has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection. "This filing is a tool to protect the value of the broadband
business for the benefit of the company's financial stakeholders and will
help reassure our customers that service will continue uninterrupted
through the restructuring process," said Excite@Home CEO Patti Hart.
AT&T's offer must be approved by the bankruptcy court and is susceptible
to higher bids from other parties. Redwood City-based Excite@Home
reportedly will enter the bankruptcy proceedings with $1.1 billion in debt
and $150 million in cash. The Nasdaq halted trading of Excite@Home's
shares on Monday at $0.15, requesting "additional information" from the
company.

o NTT DoCoMo Launches 3G Wireless Service in Japan

Tokyo -- Japanese cellular network NTT DoCoMo announced on Monday that it
has launched third-generation ("3G") wireless services in Japan, which
feature enough bandwidth to transfer video and large amounts of data at
high speed. The service -- called FOMA (Freedom of Mobile multimedia
Access) -- can be accessed through a videophone costing around $570 or
else through a standard model without video capabilities or one that can
connect a laptop to the high-speed wireless network. FOMA offers data
transfer at a rate of up to 384 Kbps, about six times faster than a 56K
modem and the same speed or speedier than many DSL connections.

o Steven Brill-Owned Online Library Contentville Shuts Down

New York -- Contentville, an online library that offered paid access to

writings, has suspended its operations as of Sept. 28th. The site was
operated by Steven Brill-owned Brill Media Holdings, which also recently
purchased the assets of news site Inside.com. "We appreciate your
business, but unfortunately we simply were unable to entice enough people
for us to see our way to a viable enterprise," Brill wrote in a note on
the website.
