o Federal Election Commission to Monitor Online Campaign Finances

Washington -- A recent federal court ruling mandates that the jurisdiction of the Federal Election Commission (FEC), which oversees federal election laws and the public funding of Presidential elections, be extended to the Internet, the Associated Press reported. The ruling would compel the FEC to monitor campaign finance and spending limits on the Internet by interest groups, campaigns and political parties; however, the FEC has said it may appeal the ruling. "I don't think anybody here wants to impede the free flow of information over the Internet," FEC vice chairwoman Ellen Weintraub told AP. "The question then is, where do you draw the line?" The FEC exempted online ads from a federal ban on coordination between candidates and corporate-funded groups, but last month's ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly reversed the FEC exemption.

o Earnings for Yahoo Nearly Quadruple

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Buoyed by stronger online advertising and the sale of its stake in Google, Yahoo on Tuesday reported quarterly profits that nearly quadrupled from a year ago. The company posted net income of $253.3 million, compared with a profit of $65.3 million in the third quarter of 2003. That figure included a profit of $129 million related to the company's sale of its investment in Google, as well as a tax benefit. Revenue was $906.7 million, up from $356.8 million. "Yahoo began to demonstrate the next stage in the company's evolution in the third quarter," said Terry Semel, the company's chairman and CEO. "We accelerated the pace at which new products and services were developed, which in-turn helped increase the level of user engagement across the Yahoo network." Yahoo also on Tuesday received antitrust approval from the Federal Trade Commission for its $160 million acquisition of Musicmatch. The FTC concluded its probe of the deal without taking any action.

All of the company's current investors and board members also participated. > Help Us Support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Digital Media Wire has joined forces with a volunteer committee organized by Rightsline's CEO Russ Reeeder to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (L&LS). Over 100,000 Americans, adults and children, are diagnosed each year with leukemia or one of its related cancers (lymphoma, Hodgkin's and myeloma), and more than 50,000 people in the U.S. alone die every year from these illnesses. Please help us support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's efforts. To make your fully tax deductible donation, please visit: http://www.active.com/donate/mwla/russellreeder
