o Interactive TV Firm OpenTV Lays Off Nearly Half of Staff

Mountain View, Calif. -- OpenTV, a developer of interactive TV software
and services, announced on Monday that it will lay off 315 employees --
almost half of its entire staff -- and close eight regional offices as
part of a plan to reduce expenses and eliminate redundancies created by
its purchase of Wink Communications. The company expects the plan to save
it $60 million annually, and will take a restructuring charge of
approximately $29.0 million. "Given the challenging economic environment
and also as a result of some significant changes in the business
strategies of the company, OpenTV is taking the necessary actions to
streamline and right-size the company's operations," said OpenTV CEO James
Ackerman. Mountain View, Calif.-based OpenTV acquired interactive TV firms
Wink Communications and ACTV last month for a combined $193.3 million.

o Copyright Office Denies Broadcasters' Request for Stay On Web Royalties

Washington -- The U.S. Copyright Office has rejected an application by a
number of broadcasters for a stay of its ruling that clarified that the
retransmission of an AM/FM broadcast signal over the Internet is not
exempt from paying webcaster royalties for streaming the songs online.
Broadcasters had sought the stay because they believed it would relieve
them from the requirement to pay statutory royalties, which kick in on
Oct. 20. Broadcasters are still appealing a court case they lost in which
they argued they should not have to pay additional royalties for streaming
the same signals they broadcast over the air.

o Sirius Satellite Radio Misses Interest Payment, Banks On Recapitalization

New York -- Sirius Satellite Radio, a provider of satellite-delivered
digital radio services, said that it failed to make an interest payment of
$720,000 due on Sept. 30, having elected to utilize a grace period on the
payment that expires on Oct. 30. The company said that it "has been in
final discussions with major stakeholders regarding a substantial
recapitalization of the company," and that if an agreement is reached the
interest payment will likely be addressed as a part of the arrangement.
New York-based Sirius has $250 million in cash on hand, which it expects
to fund its operations into the second quarter of 2003.

o Virtual Ad Firm Princeton Video Image Gets Nasdaq Delisting Notice

Lawrenceville, N.J. -- Princeton Video Image, a provider of virtual
advertising and effects for broadcasters, announced that its shares are
subject to delisting from the Nasdaq because the company has not met the
$4,000,000 net tangible assets or $10 million stockholders' equity
requirements for continued listing on the exchange. New Jersey-based
Princeton Video said it requested and was granted an appeal hearing on the
delisting, is continuing to seek new financing, and "expects to announce
further updates in the next thirty to sixty days." The company's
technology enables the "virtual 1st down line" seen in football telecasts
and virtual ads inserted on the field in soccer and baseball game
telecasts.
