o Report: User-Generated Video Views Up 429% in '06 to 31 Billion

Monterey, Calif. - User-generated videos will reach 31 billion views in 2006, up 429% over 2005, according to a report from AccuStream iMedia Research. The report includes coverage of YouTube, MySpace, Google Video, Guba, Grouper, LiveDigital, Revver, Yahoo Video, Metacafe, Heavy.com, Ebaumsworld, Break.com and others. "UGV is here, and may stay, but it's a highly competitive arena," said AccuStream research director Paul A. Palumbo. "While we're forecasting solid growth for 2007, we also see signs of rapid library maturation." The report also found that while MySpace publishes 16 content categories listing over 16 million files, factoring out duplicates leaves a library of 8 million videos. "Meteoric UGV cuts two ways," added Palumbo. "We believe future UGV success will rely on better content, more editorial filtering, semi-professionals and professionals becoming engaged with and empowered by UGV brands, incubating new talent and advertising, plus directing audiences to content."
